Bribie Respite Care's History

Bribie Respite & Support Services provides CHSP Aged Care Services and NDIS funded Community Living Support Services, Disability Learning Support and Aged Care Day Respite. We support older people who wish to remain living in their home and people living with disability, their families and carers.

Established in 1987

The organisation was established in 1987 in the grounds of the Golden Age Senior Citizens Association Incorporated. It was set up as Golden Age Day Respite Centre by the Home and Community Care (HACC) program with a grant from the Council of the Ageing (COTA) and assistance from the Bribie Island Lions Club.

Day Respite Services for 33 Years

Under the name Golden Age Day Respite Centre and managed by the Golden Age Senior Citizens Association Inc., Bribie Respite and Support Services provided day respite services from 1987 to 2017.

Over this time the centre gained a reputation for its high-quality care of the frail aged and those with dementia and for putting in place a range of highly researched therapeutic activities.

Disability Learning Support Expanded in 2017

In 2017, the organisation changed its name to Bribie Respite and Support Services Incorporated to signal that it would expand the range of services it offered, increasing its disability learning support program, reaching out into the community with one-to-one caring support services and preparing to offer overnight respite care.

In 2018 Bribie Respite and Support Services established it was the trustee of the land it occupies and so became the landlord for the co-located Meals on Wheels organisation.

Manager of Bribie Community Hall Since 2019

Then, in July 2019, Bribie Respite and Support Services took over management of the community hall and the hall was renamed and is now known as Bribie Community Hall. The Bribie District All Age Social Activities Centre Association Incorporated was disbanded and is no longer associated with Bribie Community Hall.

Over the course of 2019 the organisation expanded to incorporate a range of social supports and caring services for the participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

In 2020 the organisation is known for its warm, inclusive approach to caring for the frail elderly, people with onset dementia and people with disability, its long experience of providing respite services and its commitment to the wellbeing of the Bribie Island and Surrounds community
